Glowing Yoyo

Materials Required:
Acquire a clear yo-yo and some excellent glow paint, assorted brushes.
Procedure:
We will be painting the inside only. Disassemble yo-yo and set aside the string,
bearing, spacers, o-rings and pogs. Use masking tape to protect areas that won't be painted.
Clean the surface to be painted with a small sponge, soap and water. (yo-yos typically have a release
coating to aid in removing them from the mold in the factory, if not removed paint won't stick evenly.)
Rinse and let dry.
Spray lightly with a clear Krylon acrylic paint. Let dry completely.
(about an hour)
All the paint I use is acrylic. I like it because it's easy to use and clean up. If
you aren't happy with your results, hot water and dish soap will take it off. Yet once it dries, it's
tough and slightly flexible (it won't crack).
Mix readysetglo glow pigment with clear gloss
acrylic medium. ( Tip: You can find it at any art supply store near you. Buy a small bottle (4 or 8oz.)
Yo-yos don't need much paint.)
I use one part glow pigment to two parts medium for a thick strong
glowing layer, one part pigment to ten parts medium for a thin nearly clear layer. I find quality
improves if you mix it up a couple of hours before I plan to paint.
Use an artist's paintbrush
or toothpick to apply to your yo-yo. Artistic talent is not required, abstract designs look great. Wait
several hours between layers to allow paint to dry completely, overnight is ideal.
When you're
done painting, remove the masking tape (an X-acto knife or razor blade can help) and reassemble the yo-yo.
Taa-daa! You've created your own unique custom painted yo-yo!
Ready Set Glo's Comments:
If using regular acrylic paint, mix it down with gloss medium to provide transparency else your glow
won't show. An airbrush can help with the non-glow layers, spray lightly to get a nice color
